The role of women in the military is about to get a serious makeover!
On Tuesday, the Senate approved an expansive military policy bill that would for the first time require young women to register for the draft when they turn 18.
Though the bill has its vocal opposers of conservative lawmakers, the gender equality shift had a ton of support among Republicans and women in both parties.
Although the U.S. hasn't used the draft since 1973 during the Vietnam War, the impact of the policy change would reflect the positively evolving role of women in the military.
Under the Senate bill, women turning 18 on or after January 1 2018 would be required to register for Selective Service — just like their male peers have always been forced to do — and risk the loss of federal aid by failing to register.
Among the policy's vocal supporters is Republican Senator John McCain, the chairman of the Armed Services Committee, who said:
On Thursday, the human rights attorney sat down with NBC News for her first ever U.S. solo television interview — and boy, was this in no way a fluff piece.
In fact, the 37-year-old almost didn't acknowledge the existence of her A-list spouse as she chatted with Cynthia McFadden about her latest client. Amal is representing the former Maldives leader Mohamed Nasheed, who is currently in jail on a terrorism charge. Whoa!
Though Miz Clooney may not consider herself a celebrity, she is somewhat grateful for the limelight she's been given as it helps her raise awareness for her causes:
She should stick to
politics something else.
Now it appears that Palin is trying to turn the tables as she filmed a parody of Fey's hit sitcom 30 Rock for Independent Journal, where she plays a Liz Lemon-esque character.
Not too surprisingly, — much like Palin's bid for the White House in 2008 — Sarah came up a bit short in her attempt.
Cameos by John McCain and 30 Rock alum Kevin Brown couldn't even save this AWFUL idea!
Ch-ch-check out the former Alaskan politician try to act (below) while we do our best to forget this ever existed!
It's so nice to see celebrities honoring something important like Veterans Day!
On Tuesday, a bunch of celebs came out to support American soldiers past and present for their service. Hollywood hitters like Nick Cannon, Kris Jenner and MORE all came out to relay touching messages to our inspirational vets.
Check out the lovely shout-outs (below)!
Ohhhhh, Donald Trump!
You've really gone and done it since announcing your presidential candidacy, haven't you?
You've said awful things about Mexican people (and that, in turn, created a little vendetta from a Mexican drug lord!), you said some terrible things about a female lawyer that you won't back down from, you made a wild speech for president, and you lost your pageant after making racist remarks.
You referred to Senator John McCain a dummy instead of a war hero, and then you gave out Senator Lindsey Graham's personal cell phone number. Oh, and that's maybe half of the questionable things in the past two months!
But let's talk about that last one — Senator Graham's cell phone number. Because it seems that somebody may have gotten your personal cell phone number, Mr. Trump! Wouldn't it be awful if thousands of people started calling you like you had them do to Graham?
Well, thanks to Gawker, it's possible!
For those who'd like Trump's cell phone number to speak with him about any number of pressing political issues, have at it (below):
