Well THIS is something to certainly get excited about!
In fact, we’re shocked nobody had thought of this earlier!
Academy Awarding winning composer Alan Menken is reportedly collaborating with Harvey Fierstein on a stage adaptation of the musical Newsies!
In case you are not awesome and are unfamiliar with the flick, it’s from 1992 and stars Christian Bale as a singing, dancing, and ass-kicking New York City paper boy in 1899!
“Yeah, it is in development. What it’s going to be is ├óΓé¼ΓÇ¥ honestly, right now ├óΓé¼ΓÇ¥ undetermined. I think Disney is still trying to decide whether it’s a first-class production or whether it’s stock and amateur. But there will be available a stage musical of Newsies. That’s all I can say. I’ve been writing it with Harvey Fierstein and Jack Feldman. [How it emerges is] just gonna be [a] business decision of how Disney wants to proceed with it. But yes, we are developing it. We’re having a very successful collaboration. We’re all having a great time. We already had a 29-hour reading├óΓé¼┬ªin May. I don’t think Disney knows yet what it’s going to be.”
He goes on to reveal that they’ve expanded from the original music, and the stage version will feature “a lot of new songs.”
We’re totally psyched about this one – but we can’t help but wonder how Christian Bale feels about it!
They should write him a walk-on role! We just hope he’s not “done professionally” with his musical days!
What do U think?? Are U excited for more Newsies??
