We’ve heard of doggone mad…but this takes the doggie biscuit! LOLz!
Geneticist Elaine Ostrander is marveled by the variance but yet simliar genetics of the dog. While they come in all shape and sizes, they can ALL breed with each other!
So what better way to understand the HUMAN genome than by studying the DOG genome!!!
For example, Ostrander and her team at the National Institute of Health have studied corgis, whose big bones and small stature resemble dwarfism in humans.
They also found analogues between pug noses and snouts compared to human faces, including eyes that may be spread farther apart than usual or humans with prominent foreheads.
It is inneresting to see how this will affect human genetics. In the case of other animals, Ostrander and her team have been able to turn off genes in OTHER species and introduce dog genes.
An example….pug noses zebrafish! LOLz!
