Tim Tebow was understandably pissed to hear that he was being benched, while third-string quarterback Greg McElroy was suiting up to play.
What’s not very cool is that Teebs apparently threw a hissy fit about it to his coach Rex Ryan, and told him not to use him in last Sunday’s game against the Chargers!
Here’s what Tebow said about the incident:
“You work your whole life to build a reputation. Then people try to bring you down when they don’t understand even what happened. It’s disappointing. You just want to express your side of the story.”
He claims the comments he made were taken out of context.
“I never said, ‘Hey, I don’t want to do anything. I won’t do anything.’ That wasn’t the talk at all. He knows that. And everybody on this team knows that I would never not do something if I was asked. That’s what’s disappointing.
“People saying, ‘Oh, you quit.’ That was not it at all. It was just me asking to get an opportunity to play the position I love, which is quarterback. It wasn’t me asking out of anything.”
We have to be honest: that sounds a little like whining about people thinking you were whining! LOLz!
He went on:
“For people to not know the situation and then start to bash your character and then say you’re a phony or you’re a fake or you’re a hypocrite. I think that’s what’s disappointing and that’s what’s frustrating. Your character is who you are as a man and that’s a lot more important├óΓé¼┬ª I take that way more serious than I’ll ever take a football game.”
Glad to hear he know there’s more serious business out there than a football game!
Honestly, we don’t know what went down during that meeting, or the context. All we do know is that we’d be frustrated too, but then realize we’re still getting paid to not have 300 pound men trying to kill us.
Chin up, Teebs! Tomorrow is another day!
