What an incredible week for previously-private celebrities in the LGBT community!
We think everyone can easily agree that Jodie Foster‘s acceptance speech for the Cecil B. DeMille Award at Sunday night’s 2013 Golden Globes ceremony was one of the most powerful, unexpected ways in which an actor has ever revealed his or herself to the public as a homosexual, and while she deserves all the praise and admiration she has garnered for her layered, introspective reflection on her life and accomplishments, it’s ALSO nice to see one her fellow thespians open up about his private life in a much more to-the-point fashion!
And that is EXACTLY what Victor Garber, best known for his work in Titanic and Alias, did during last week’s TV Critics Association Press Tour, for his upcoming role in NBC’s Deception!
Apparently, when asked about his Wikipedia page listing him in a same-sex relationship with Rainer Andreesen, his companion of 13 years, Garber acknowledged:
“I don├óΓé¼Γäót really talk about it but everybody knows. He’s going to be out here with me for the SAG Awards.”
WOW! Just to-the-point, matter-of-fact, and obviously a part of his personal life that he values a great deal!
We couldn’t be more thrilled that he’s finally publicly acknowledged it to the public, and hopefully, young people struggling with their sexuality can take comfort in knowing that while it’s scary for them at this point in their young lives, there WILL come a time at some point down the road where all of that anxiety, confusion, and fear has been replaced by comfort, love, and self-confidence in who they TRULY are!
Thanks for speaking out, Victor!
