Couple Loses 500 Pounds Together!!

Losing weight is extremely hard!

Luckily, this couple had each other — and conquered their goals in tandem! So inspirational!

Best friends for over a decade, married for three years, and Angela and Willie Gillis are such a good team that together the lost 500 pounds!

Here’s what Angela writes:

“Everyone needs that one person to help them through, to talk to and someone who will hold them accountable. That person has been my husband.”

Their journey started one day when Willie woke up and told Angela that he was tired of being big, and that he wanted to see his goddaughter grow up. This was just a few days before their first wedding anniversary.

At the time, he weight 492 pounds. It was 2011, and he said that he wanted to see if he could do it through nutrition and exercise. Angela joined him! She weighed 338 pounds.

The plan was in motion, and the couple started hitting the gym six days a week. In the beginning, all they could do was walk 30 minutes on the treadmill — which was enough, because eventually they both increased their time, and found that she was running, and he had lost about 150 pounds!

Angela figured out how to make healthy versions of the food they loved, and started eating a solid breakfast of steel cut oats and fruit or veggie omelets. They packed diet-friendly frozen meals for lunch and found relief in low-calorie snacks like yogurt, carrots and apples. For dinner? Lean meats and vegetables, as it still is today!

They haven’t had fried food in TWO years!!

The main thing is that they kept each other accountable:

“I never wanted to come home and say, ‘This is what I did today,’ because I didn’t want to disappoint him. And he didn’t want to disappoint me.”

The biggest thing they had to face was eating out, because even ‘light’ restaurant meals are pretty awful with sodium and fat. Eating was such a social thing for them that they had to isolate themselves a little bit, and actually met new friends at the gym! Now, she teaches spin classes at the gym and recently completed a half marathon — and lost 200 pounds, going from a size 28 to a size 0.

Willie joined a local running club. He has lost 300 pounds! Here’s what he says:

“A lot of people give up — they end up quitting because they’re not doing something right. You have to take what you messed up on and try to make it work for you. Once you learn it, it doesn’t take much to keep it going.”

And that, guys, is something we can all live by!
