In Uruguay, scientists have genetically modified sheep so that they can glow-in-the-dark!!
They only glow under ultraviolet light though, so unless you have a black light, you’ll miss these goats’ special ability.
Researchers at Uruguay’s Animal Reproduction Institute partnered with the Pasteur Institute of Montevideo to create the first transgenic sheep in Latin America.
What they did was take a jellyfish gene for green fluorescence and inject it into sheep embryos.
Nine genetically modified lambs were born and they are all currently healthy and about 6-months old now.
Looking at them, you’d just think they’re normal cutie lambs, unless you hit them with a black light.
This whole endeavor proves that genetic modification technology can work and it should be a great jump off point for future science!
Way to go, Uruguay!!
