Texas Anti-Abortion Bill Shot Down After Marathon Filibuster Falls Short!

wendy davis filibuster falls short but texas anti abortion bill shot down

A bill that would have put heavy restrictions on abortions in the state of Texas was declared dead early this morning, but it wasn’t without its fair share of drama!

Senator Wendy Davis was at the center of it all yesterday when she attempted a 13-hour filibuster to block any voting on the bill. However, her effort fell three hours short after she was given third strike for violating rules when it was determined she had gone off topic!

A packed gallery full of protestors broke into boos chants of “Shame! Shame! Shame!” as the people took over where Wendy left off, and the room erupted into applause when the clock struck midnight and it looked as though the bill was officially dead!

See the controversial and INSANE final 10 minutes of the special session AFTER THE JUMP!!!

The inspirational senator commented on the moment, saying:

“There were attempts to shove every rule aside in order to try to cram this vote through, and the voices of the people who were in the Capitol gallery tonight could not be silenced, and it simply didn’t allow the vote to be taken in time.”

However, the excitement quickly turned to confusion when reports began to break out that the bill had somehow passed even though the deadline to vote had passed!

Protestors booed the apparent violation of the rules, however three hours later it was declared that the bill was, in fact, dead!

It’s still possible for Texas governor Rick Perry to call for another special session to vote on the bill again, but for now we’ll take the HUGE victory for women across the country!

Way to go, Wendy!
