A privately owned snow tractor was backing up and clearing snow from a grocery store parking lot in Brooklyn on Thursday when it struck a pregnant woman and killed her.
The victim’s name was Min Lin, and after the accident, she was rushed to the hospital where her baby was delivered by doctors upon arrival via a C-section. Unfortunately the woman was pronounced dead the minute she arrived there.
The almost full-term baby boy, who weighs 6.6 pounds, remains in critical condition and is being closely watched over by Brooklyn’s Maimonides Medical Center staff.
The pregnant woman was with her husband at the time of the accident, and was loading groceries into her car when the Bobcat compact tractor struck her. The operator of the vehicle is being questioned by the police.
At the time New York was in the middle of a huge snow story that dropped over a foot of snow across the city, and it’s known that such conditions sometimes prompt tractors to “jacknife” which may have been what happened here.
Our thoughts are with the victim’s family, and we hope the baby is able to survive this unfortunate and horrific incident.
