Openly Gay NFL Player Michael Sam Is Cut From The St. Louis Rams, But They Might Bring Him Back!

After falling to the 249th pick in the NFL draft, people knew making a roster would be an uphill battle for Michael Sam, who is the leagues first openly gay player.

However, his skills didn’t quite live up to expectation, and the St. Louis Rams had to cut him, in favor of undrafted rookie Ethan Westbrooks.

Now, Sam is on waivers, but if no other team picks him up, the Rams would love to keep him in the organization on the practice squad!

Coach Jeff Fisher talked about Sam at a press conference, saying:

“There will be no challenge, no challenges whatsoever. There’s no challenge with respect to Mike Sam. He’s not about drawing attention to himself. He kept his head down and worked and you can’t ask anything more out of any player for that matter.”

Well that’s a pretty good report card!

Teams have until noon on Sunday to pick up Sam, but even if he doesn’t end up in the league this season, the rookie isn’t giving up! He tweeted:

Sam is young, and a hard worker, so with time, there’s no telling how great he can still be in the NFL!

We wish him lots of luck!
