Melora Rivera had been in bed when a home intruder allegedly broke into her home, which is basically anyone’s worst nightmare.
The Sparkle actress managed to escape out her second-story window and onto her roof. Smart thinking!
According to her, getting out the window to escape her alleged homeless intruder, Christian Hicks, was a top priority:
“He managed to break one of these panels and reach in to unlock the door. Once I saw him in the house, I knew that we both couldn’t be there. I knew that I didn’t want to have a confrontation with him of any sort, you know, not knowing what his intention was.”
After calling 911, officers were able to get there within two minutes, surround the house, and force Christian, who had also allegedly managed to get on the roof as well, to surrender.
In the end, Melora had some wise words about the whole ordeal:
“I think it’s very obvious for most of us who live around here, when someone seems to be suffering from a mental illness, and to continue to let these people walk around without offering them assistance, to protect them and us. That, I think, is the heart of the problem.”
