According to Global Language Monitor, the most used word of 2014 isn’t even a word, it’s an emoji — which is pretty mind boggling.
Don’t get us wrong, we love us some emojis, but we don’t necessarily count them as WORDS… Do YOU?

10. “Bash” Tag
At least the emoji was a heart, which stands for love and not, like, the dragon one or something.
Interesting side note: the most used phrase of the year was “hands up, don’t shoot” which refers to what the Ferguson demonstrators chanted during their protests.
