For Game of Thrones fans, good news — like, say, a royal wedding — is often followed by tragedy.
And today is no exception.
Fans were treated to an early look at season 5 of HBO‘s hit fantasy series thanks to a trailer leak. But just hours later, the lord of light taketh away.
Author George R. R. Martin‘s publisher has confirmed that the long-awaited sixth novel in the A Song Of Ice And Fire series will NOT be arriving for a while. In fact, it’s not even going to happen in 2015!
Jane Johnson of house HarperCollins broke the news that apart from a collection of previously released prequel novellas, there is nothing on the books for this year. She said:
“I have no information on likely delivery…
These are increasingly complex books and require immense amounts of concentration to write. Fans really ought to appreciate that the length of these monsters is equivalent to two or three novels by other writers.”
This is indeed tragic news, but what was that about prequels?
A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms takes place about 100 years before the start of A Game Of Thrones.
It collects The Hedge Knight, The Sworn Sword, and The Mystery Knight for the first time, and it’s due on shelves in October.
So, hey, at least there’s something.
