On the heels of Natalia Kills and her husband Willy Moon‘s firings over their brutal slam of a contestant on the show, replacement judge Shelton Woolright is defending his use of blackface.

That’s right, he’s not apologizing, he’s defending it. Yup. You can start screaming at your computer screen now.

The I Am Giant singer appeared in photos from performances found on his Twitter and now-private Facebook account in blackface.

Here’s what he had to say about his actions:

“My love of music and creativity means I have become not only a drummer in a hard rock band, but also a photographer and artist. The black face paint has been part of my stage performance for various shows and videos and and has been a developing concept. As with my full body tattoos, it has been a form of expression and a point of difference.”

Sorry, Shelton, but blackface no matter what the intent is inherently racist.

Tattoos? Form of expression. Blackface has WAY too many historical implications to ever be a form of expression separate from its racial semiotics.

So, yeah, please stop.
