Pizza Place Becomes First Indiana Business To Publicly Refuse Service To Same Sex Couples Under New Law

A pizza place in Walkerton, Indiana is making the wrong kind of history.

Memories Pizza is publicly taking a stance in accordance with Indiana Governor Mike Pence and his controversial Religious Freedom Restoration Act.

The family-owned business has not only agreed with the bill, but is publicly denying catering service to the weddings of same sex couples.

Memories co-owner Crystal O’Connor said:

“If a gay couple came in and wanted us to provide pizzas for their wedding, we would have to say no… We are a Christian establishment… We’re not discriminating against anyone, that’s just our belief and anyone has the right to believe in anything… We definitely agree with the bill… I do not think it’s targeting gays. I don’t think it’s discrimination. It’s supposed to help people that have a religious belief.”

And Crystal’s father was even more forthcoming with his beliefs. Kevin O’Connor said:

“That lifestyle is something they choose. I choose to be heterosexual. They choose to be homosexual. Why should I be beat over the head to go along with something they choose?”

Is it difficult to “choose” to be heterosexual? It sounds difficult.

BTW, the O’Connor family wants to make it clear they would never actually deny service to a gay couple who came into their restaurant; they just won’t cater a same sex couple’s wedding.

Because it’s not homosexuals’ existence they’re against, just their basic rights?
