Backstreet Boys: Show ├óΓé¼╦£Em What You’re Made Of will explore the boys’ meteoric rise to fame and working with manager Lou Pearlman — who was also responsible for assembling *NSYNC!

In the upcoming doc, band member Kevin Richardson reveals the first time he learned of the rival boy band:

“Around 1995 I came off the road and Lou said, ‘Come here, I want to show you something.’ He showed me a VHS tape of this group.”

That group didn’t have a name at the time, but would shortly become *NSYNC! The Backstreet Boys found out that Pearlman modeled the exact same boy band formula to create a rival band to perform when BSB wasn’t available!

Fellow Backstreet Boy A.J. McLean relives the heartbreaking realization, saying:

“We’re molding them in your image, that’s what they told us… Damn dude, I guess one wasn’t enough? So now you gotta have 15 boy groups.”

Wow! Who knew the two bands had such real drama between them?

You can learn all about the real rivalry when Show ‘Em What You’re Made Of makes its television debut as a part of a Rock Doc series on VH1!
