Oxalate is a chemical found in black tea, as well as other foods like spinach, nuts and chocolate. It’s rare, but too much oxalate CAN lead to kidney trouble!

In this case, doctors didn’t have to search too long to find the source of the man’s oxalate problem — the 56-year-old admitted to drinking about 16 8-ounce cups of iced tea every day!

That’s 3-10 times more oxalate than the average American!

For all you tea-lovers out there, fear not! You don’t have to throw out your Lipton bags just yet!

Dr. Randy Luciano, a kidney specialist at Yale School of Medicine explained the man was simply drinking way too much. The doctor went on to say:

“I wouldn’t tell people to stop drinking tea.”

Well, that’s refreshing news to say the least!
