On April Fools Day, Will Ferrell and Kristen Wiig had everyone skeptical when it was announced they would star in a “high-stakes dramatic thriller” Lifetime movie, titled A Deadly Adoption!
But the news was too good to be true — a day later Ferrell reportedly pulled the plug. The Get Hard actor told EW:
“We are deeply disappointed that our planned top secret project was made public. Kristen and I have decided it is in the best interest for everyone to forego the project entirely, and we thank Lifetime and all the people who were ready to help us make this film.”
All seemed lost, until reports today confirmed that the project was actually still on!
That’s right! According to The Wrap, Ferrell’s statement regarding the scraping of the project may have just been a ploy. The film has already been shot and is still set for a summer release!
A Deadly Adoption will to be a campy take on the TV movie genre. It stars Saturday Night Live alums Ferrell and Wiig as a married couple taking care of a pregnant woman (Jessica Lowndes) whose baby they plan to adopt. But in true Lifetime movie fashion, sh*t gets cray!!
No official word yet from Lifetime on the film’s status, but we’re keeping our fingers crossed that A Deadly Adoption will still be a part of Lifetime’s 25th Anniversary of movies!
