Remember when we told you about this unnerving statue of Lucille Ball in Celoron, NY?
Of course you do; it haunts all of our dreams now.
Well, it looks like the campaign of folks trying to get the monstrosity — dubbed “Scary Lucy” by the locals — taken down may have worked!
After images of Scary Lucy recently went viral, artist Dave Poulin, who created the bronze image that has been on display since 2009, wrote in a letter to The Hollywood Reporter:
“I take full responsibility for ‘Scary Lucy,’ though by no means was that my intent or did I wish to disparage in any way the memories of the iconic Lucy image…
From the day of its installation, I have shared my disappointment in the final outcome and have always believed it to be by far my most unsettling sculpture, not befitting of Lucy’s beauty or my ability as a sculptor.”
Not only is Dave not happy with the piece; he himself has been trying to get Scary Lucy taken down too! He explained:
“About five years ago I first approached the Mayor to discuss redoing the sculpture… To create a life-size bronze is a very time consuming and expensive endeavor. I am willing to put my time and money into redoing the Lucy sculpture and feel confident after ten years I can do a much better job.”
Sounds like Dave is totally willing to make it right!
So don’t cry, Lucy.
And don’t make whatever face you’re making right now at us either. Srsly, stop.
