This seems like a strange thing for them to care so much about…
In what’s easily the start of a new awards season, Cannes released its official competition list on Thursday, but one of the most glaring snubs has nothing to do with movies at all!
In addition to praising films from around the world in 2015, the French film festival also wants to use its influence to put an end to the celebrity selfie!
Cannes President Pierre Lescure and festival director Thierry Frémaux have had it with celebrities taking selfies on the red carpet in the past and want to ensure they never happen again.
In fact, Thierry cares so vehemently about the act, that he actually released a statement on the issue, saying:
“We don’t want to prohibit it, but we want to slow down the process of selfies on the steps.
You never look as ugly as you do in a selfie.”
He went on to call the Instagram mainstay grotesque and a hindrance to the red carpet process!
Celebs being photographed is a hindrance to the process of celebs being photographed??
This is ridiculous!
Actors can be snapped by literally hundreds of paparazzi for the event, but then can’t even take a single pic of themselves?
Since the act isn’t officially against festival rules, we urge all of the celebs walking the carpet this year to share their selfies in protest!
And don’t forget to hashtag them #YesWeCannes!
Let’s be the change we want to see in the world! And take a picture of it!!!
