Melissa Rivers Says That Fashion Police Failed Because The Family Was Torn Apart By Joan’s Death

This is just so sad!

We sometimes forget that it wasn’t necessarily the Zendaya scandal that ruined Fashion Police — It was also Joan Rivers‘ tragic death.

Even though the E! show is scheduled to return this fall with Giuliana Rancic and Brad Goreski, Melissa Rivers is finally sharing her insight on the state of the series.

In an interview on Monday, Joan’s daughter compared Kathy Griffin, Kelly Osbourne, and G’s feud to a grieving family, saying:

“The only way I can really get my head around it is the matriarch of the family died and the family fell apart. And the sisters started fighting. And everybody mourns and grieves differently. And then someone tried to marry into the family. And we know how that went. That’s the only way I can sort of explain what happened.”

That’s a really sad metaphor, but it actually sounds pretty accurate to us.

While the patchouli oil and weed comments were controversial, they may have just been what caused the final rift between the already-strained relationships of the co-hosts.

Now that Melissa has shared that she knows bringing in an outsider didn’t really work, it will be interesting to see who E! eventually casts to fill the two empty seats.

Maybe we’ll get a return from George Kotsiopoulus??

Probably not.
