On Thursday, Mitch Kupchak, the Los Angeles Lakers‘ general manager, said in a radio interview that Kobe Bryant might make next season his last!
“He has indicated to me that this is it.”
Say it ain’t so!!
As the NBA star enters his final contract season in which he is set to make $25 million. Whoa!
This is the basketball legend’s 20th season with the more popular Los Angeles basketball team, and many still speculate that he could play past this next season. Hmm, very inneresting!
“I think it is clear. He’s on the last year of his deal. There have been no discussions [about playing beyond next season]. He hasn’t indicated that he wants to continue to play.”
We’re not shocked by this news since the 37-year-old ended the last three seasons early due to injury.
Apparently, the five-time Championship-winning player has slowly relinquished his involvement over the years, and it’s said that he backed away from being involved in the draft picks for the team nearly eight years ago.
Mitch also added, “He just backed away and said, ‘You guys know what you’re doing,’ which was flattering.” Is it just us or did that sound a little Classic Kupchak tongue-in-cheek?! LOLz!
Nonetheless, it’s hard to imagine the Lakers without Kobe — but all good things must come to an end!
What do you think? Will Kobe retire as a lifetime Laker next season?
