The Rock is killing it right now!
After shaking up the box office this weekend with his hit disaster movie, San Andreas, Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson has been a SUPER busy man! Not only is he set to star in Shazam as the titular hero for DC comics, but he’s got an upcoming HBO show, Ballers, which premieres in June!
But that’s not stopping him from continuing his streak! This time he’s eyeing a remake of an ’80s classic! That’s right Johnson is reportedly in talks to star in Big Trouble in Little China!
The film is being developed by Twentiety Century Fox and currently being written by Ashely Miller and Zack Stentz. You might recognize their names from working on little known features such as Thor and X-Men: First Class!
Dwayne would probably take on the role of Jack Burton, depending on how much remains the same from the original. In the ’80s version, Kurt Russell played Burton, a trucker who ended up smack dab in the middle of a supernatural battle taking place in Chinatown.
Though box office mojo reports that Big Trouble in Little China only made about $11 million in ’86, it has received a lot of love on the home market and has become somewhat of a cult classic!
Besides that, the ’80s flick is supposedly one of Johnson’s favorite films! That’s probably why Dwayne and his producing partners, Dany Garcia and Hiram Garcia, pitched the remake to the owner of the rights at Fox.
We may have to wait a while to see The Rock on screen as Jack Burton but we’re thrilled about this announcement. Because let’s be real, we can’t get enough Johnson — yeah, we said it, LOLz!
