What the heck??
Della Curry was the kitchen manager at Dakota Valley Elementary School, up until she got fired on Friday.
The Aurora, Colorado lunch lady says she was let go because she was giving free meals to students who couldn’t afford to pay for their food.
But she has no regrets about being a compassionate soul, saying:
“I had a first-grader in front of me, crying, because she doesn’t have enough money for lunch. Yes, I gave her lunch.”
Naturally, education officials got a ton of crap when this started making headlines.
But now, the school district released a statement claiming the 35-year-old’s termination had absolutely nothing to do with the lunches she was giving out:
“Miss Curry was not dismissed for giving free food to financially disadvantaged students. Numerous documented incidents resulted in the action taken. We are unable to fully disclose all of the details concerning her dismissal without her permission.”
Hmmmmmmm. Well this just got slightly more vague and confusing.
A spokesperson for the school district expressed his frustration with the alleged he-said-she-said debacle, saying:
“It is so unfortunate that she is able to provide inaccurate information that I can’t address because of state privacy issues.”
But, don’t expect Della to allow officials to release her file, because girl is calling BS on the school’s claim about her:
“I think they’re trying to protect themselves, which is fine. But all I can tell you is the truth.”
What do U think?? Is the school trying to cover its behind? Or is there more to Della’s story than she’s letting on? SOUND OFF in the comments!
