When The Rock smells criticism, he makes sure to smash it!

Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson got a lot of mixed reactions last week when the news dropped that he was going to remake the ├óΓé¼╦£80s classic, Big Trouble in Little China.

This is kind of expected in this day and age with so many remakes happening in Hollywood right now. It’s even more expected when it’s an ├óΓé¼╦£80s classic — Poltergeist, Ghostbusters, Red Dawn…the list goes on.

But the hulking action star wanted to put people’s minds at ease when it came to his upcoming project, as well as let people know the love and respect he has for the original.

The Rock even went as far as to say he wants some input from the minds of the original so he can do it justice. He said of the process:

“Know that I come to the project with nothing but love and respect for the original, which is why we want to bring on John Carpenter…we surrounded ourselves with the right group of people, the right writers who loved the movie too and wanted to honor it, bring on John Carpenter in some capacity ├óΓé¼┬ª If we did that, then we have a shot at hopefully making something good.”

Those “right writers” of course are Ashley Miller and Zack Stentz who helped to pen X-Men: First Class and are currently attached to write the remake. With the combo of Miller, Stentz and hopefully the addition of Carpenter soon, it sounds like Johnson knows exactly how to go about this and keep the fans happy!

Dwayne also hinted at the fact that he’d be interested in getting the original star of the film, Kurt Russell involved. Now THERE’S an idea!

We can’t wait to see what The Rock does with this and hope it turns out as well as he wants it too! But if he loves it as much as he says he does, we don’t have any doubts that we’ll have another HUGE Johnson *wink* box office hit!
