Doreetha Daniels has done so much in her lifetime, having lived through a bunch of wars, evolving technologies and substantial societal progress.
But now, the 99-year-old is checking one more thing off her long list of incredible experiences: graduating college!
On Friday, Doreetha received her associate’s degree in social sciences from College of the Canyons in Santa Clarita, CA.
She admitted that it seems strange to pursue higher education at this age, saying:
“I understand that to earn a degree in college at age 99, that’s a bit unusual.”
But she explained that she took on the challenge to better herself.
And it certainly has been a challenge. Doreetha started taking classes back in 2009, but several setbacks have slowed down her educational journey, like various health issues, and the loss of her driver’s license.
But those struggles are a thing of the past, since she can now officially say she’s a college graduate!
