What does this lawmaker think is causing California’s historic drought?
If you guessed abortion, you win. Unless you live in Bakersfield, CA, where Shannon Grove is your representative to the State Legislature.
The Assemblywoman is in hot water after some remarks she made to a gathering of pro-life supporters.
Grove is reported to have linked the state’s water problem to legalized abortion, saying:
“Texas was in a long period of drought until Gov. Perry signed the fetal pain bill. It rained that night. Now God has his hold on California.”
Wow. Just… wow.
This is an elected official??
Assemblywoman Grove has responded to the criticism she has received from this statement, saying she was partially misquoted — but agreeing that she did in fact link the rain to the bill being signed.
In her official statement on what she thinks caused the drought, she said:
“Nobody knows. I do know there are millions of Californians praying for this state, and as I’ve said, I believe the Lord has his hand on California.”
So, yeah. She’s pretty much standing her ground there.
And speaking of “her ground” it’s really her constituents we feel bad for.
For now all the residents of Bakersfield can do is be prudent, conserve water, and vote for someone else next time.
