Warning: Spoilers ahead.

Though we might’ve fallen in love with Matthew McConaughey and Woody Harrelson in HBO‘s crime anthology — we think this season of True Detective might just be better!

This time around, in Sunday’s premiere, we have a new set of A-listers including Rachel McAdams, Vince Vaughn, Taylor Kitsch, and Colin Farrell — who’re slated to solve a new crime in the (fictional) city of Vinci, CA.

It really wouldn’t be True Detective without ├óΓé¼┬ª a murder!

This season, the detectives are on the hunt for Vinci’s city manager, Ben Casper. This unfortunate victim went missing just after a newspaper article comes out threatening to expose his corruption. Yikes!

Cue Farrell’s character, Ray Velcoro, and his equally emotionally expressive eyebrows discover the missing man was a sex addict. Hmm, very inneresting!

Well, it seems Farrell is this year’s McConaughey — with a character whose past is just down right tragic. It appears that in the past Ray’s wife was brutally raped, beaten, and then gave birth to a baby boy nine months later. Ray acts as the boy’s father but is in no way “Father Of The Year.”

However, thanks to the help of Vaughn’s casino owning Frank Semyon, the haunted detective was able to get revenge on his wife’s attacker. But because of the previous favor, it seems that Frank now has Ray (and his eyebrows) on his payroll. See how it’s all connected?!

Unfortunately, Frank is Ben (the missing guy)’s business partner which causes several problems for the corrupt magnate. Whomp, whomp.

But wait, where’s Rachel in all this mess?! Well, McAdams’ is the jaded sheriff, Ani Bezzerides, over in Los Angeles whose life consists of a cult filled childhood, a web cam sex worker for a sister, and a dead mother. Whoa.

As for Kitsch’s character?? He plays highway patrolman Paul Woodrugh who’s super depressed. Poor guy gets put on disciplinary leave after NOT taking sexual favors from someone he’s pulled over.

Regardless, it’s Paul who finds Ben (again the missing guy from before). The final shot sets the season in motion with Paul, Ani, and Ray teaming up to solve TD‘s freshest murder!

What do you think?! Will this season trump the first??
