On June 30, you get a whole extra second in your day. It’s like time is stopping just for you!
You see, just like Earth’s revolution isn’t EXACTLY 365 days — so every four years we have an extra day — Earth’s rotation isn’t exactly 24 hours.
It’s actually .002 seconds too long, though this may be gradually longer as the Earth’s rotation slows down.
To make up for this, on June 30 scientists will add one extra second to the clock — a Leap Second!
And instead of not noticing and letting your one more time go to waste, why not try one of these fun-tastic one-second activities? You could…
Stop and smell the Roses:
Flip a table*:
*cleanup will take longer than one second
Eat a mouthful of Ben & Jerry’s new same sex marriage celebrating flavor “I Dough, I Dough”:
Do a single Kegel exercise:
Remember how good 30 Rock‘s Leap Day William episode was:
Show the Capitol you mean business:
And finally, you can use that second to tell your BFF you love them:
Well, if you want, but we were thinking more like a “thank you for being a friend” type thing:
Now aren’t you glad you had that extra sec??
