Former NFL wide receiver JaJuan Dawson drowned after a boating accident over the weekend, according to officials in Collin County, Texas. Dawson was 37 years old.
He went missing Sunday evening after he fell off an inflatable tube that was being pulled by a boat around a lake in the Dallas area, and on Monday night, divers recovered his body.
Family members confirmed it was Dawson on Tuesday. Apparently, he was not wearing a life preserver when he fell off the raft, and family members didn’t think he knew how to swim.
Dawson played four years of professional football beginning in 2000, for the Cleveland Browns, Houston Texans, and Indianapolis Colts. He caught 52 passes and scored two touchdowns in those four seasons, after a stellar college career at Tulane University.
Our thoughts are with Dawson’s family.
