Raven-Symoné is not African-American, people!

In a recent interview, Raven made the stance that she’s NOT African-American, a label she first rejected nine months ago in a sit down with Oprah Winfrey. According to the View star, she’s simply an American and there’s nothing more to it!

The actress explained:

“I don’t like labels, but everyone needs them to understand what is going on. So, okay, I get it. Give me ‘American.’ There is nothing wrong with being an American, purely.”

While we agree there’s nothing wrong with being an American, there’s also nothing wrong with being African-American! At the end of the day, labels are only worth the power you assign them!

She continued:

“I think that there are a lot of different races that fall under ‘American,’ so past that you really just are sub-categorizing me over and over again. I’m not disowning my history in any way. My family has been here for almost 400 years. We’re American. This is me and what I feel about myself. But if you identify as African-American, then you’re African-American. What right do I have to tell you what you are and what you’re not?”

Very interesting point! The 29-year-old, along with everyone else, has the sole right to define. It’s clear RS doesn’t like labels — despite exclusively dating a woman, she has never referred to herself as bisexual, queer, or gay. According to Raven, she’s just a “human who loves other humans”.

Well, obviously Twitter had something to say about the That’s So Raven star’s controversial comments. Check out some feelings (below)!

So, what do YOU have to say about Raven’s comments?
