It was so close, but we’ve got a winner!
Pulling in $24.8 million in its now second weekend at the box office, Ant-Man is your winner over the last couple of days!
The story, though, is Sandler’s Pixels, which surprisingly beat out the weekend’s other new releases and took home its own $24 million in its weekend debut. That $24 million, though, is lackluster for Sandler — his most recent dud Jack and Jill took home $25 million over its opening weekend, while more successful Grown Ups 2 pulled in over $40 million.
The final numbers will come Monday morning, but barring an unusually big Sunday, Pixels may have topped new releases with a little disappointment.
Elsewhere around the box office over the weekend, Jake Gyllenhaal‘s Southpaw was a surprise success, pulling in $16.5 million and making the top five! It beat out Paper Towns, which earned only $12.5 million — not altogether unexpected, but slightly disappointing for the young adult drama, nevertheless.
Rounding out the top five in third place was the Minions movie, pulling in $22.1 million in its third weekend in theaters, and Amy Schumer‘s Trainwreck, which earned a fourth place box office finish and $17.3 million in its second weekend of showings.
What do U think — did U see any of these movies this weekend?!
