TV Land is about to get a whole lot more meta!

It’s been reported that the cable network is teaming with Melissa McCarthy and her actor husband Ben Falcone for the upcoming comedy Friends With Melissa!

The single camera series will follow the lives of real life writers Hugh Davidson, Larry Dorf and Rachel Ramras who watched their friends from the improv comedy troupe The Groundlings (such as McCarthy) go on to become famous movie stars while they write for a children’s TV show!

McCarthy is set to appear in the pilot episode and executive produce the series with her husband — the two had this to say in a joint statement:

“We are so excited to be working with Hugh, Rachel and Larry ├óΓé¼ΓÇ¥ such funny people, who are great friends. TV Land is a great place for this show.”

We think this Hollywood-centric concept has the ingredients for a hit show, kind of like Matt LeBlanc playing himself in Showtime‘s Episodes!

But this series could also go the other way like Billy Crystal and Josh Gad‘s season-long stint playing themselves in FX‘s The Comedians!

What do you think? Will this TV Land series be a hit?
