Queen Latifah & Mary J. Blige Will Star In NBC’s The Wiz Live!

They're off to see the wizard!

NBC is at it again!

The network announced back in March that it was going to put on a live TV adaptation of the popular Broadway musical The Wiz, in the same vein as Peter Pan Live! and The Sound of Music Live!

Now, two of the leads have been revealed! Queen Latifah and Mary J. Blige will star in the show!

The U.N.I.T.Y. rapper will play the iconic role of the wizard, which is typically a male role and was played by Richard Pryor in the movie version.

But, the show’s producers are super excited to switch things up with QL:

“To see [Queen Latifah] play the iconic role of the Wiz and make it her own is going to be one of the joys of producing this event.”

MJB will tackle the role of Evillene, AKA the Wicked Witch of the West. No word yet on who will play Dorothy, but we do know that the network had held an open casting call for the part!

And speaking of Dorothy, the actress who played the pig-tailed good-girl in the original Broadway cast has signed on to play Auntie Em in NBC’s production!

The show is slated to air on Dec 3. We can’t wait! Can YOU?
