ICYMI: The death of Cecil the Lion at the hands of an American dentist took the internet by storm with many enraged celebrities calling for legal action to be taken for the heinous act.
On Friday, it was reported that Zimbabwe has called on the United States to extradite Dr. Walter Palmer following the shooting of the beloved animal.
The country’s environment minister, Oppah Muchinguri, stated:
“[Palmer] had a well-orchestrated agenda which would tarnish the image of Zimbabwe and further strain the relationship between Zimbabwe and the U.S.A.
This must be condemned in the strongest possible terms by all genuine, animal-loving conservationists who believe in sustainable utilization of natural resources.”
The controversial dentist still remains MIA following his alleged $50,000 hunt on the 13-year-old lion.
In fact, a White House petition requesting Palmer’s extradition received 160,000 signatures in mere days — surpassing all expectations. We bet that President Obama will definitely address this circulating petition. How could he not?!
Muchinguri shared that nearly 500,000 people called for Palmer’s extradition in Zimbabwe.
“We are taking this issue seriously.”
It appears that the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service is already involved in investigating the death of the lion.
The agency’s deputy chief of law enforcement, Edward Grace, explained:
“That investigation will take us wherever the facts lead. At this point in time, however, multiple efforts to contact Dr. Walter Palmer have been unsuccessful. We ask that Dr. Palmer or his representative contact us immediately.”
It’ll certainly be inneresting to see how this all plays out. We guess only time will tell.
