Mission Impossible Reigns Supreme, But What’s Up With Vacation?! We’ve Got All The Weekend Box Office Deets HERE!

It was a great weekend for Tom Cruise and the gang around Mission: Impossible — Rogue Nation!

That’s because not only did the movie open up at number one on the mid-summer weekend, it also did $56 million over the three-day period. That’s better than many had predicted, and matches up favorably with 2011’s Ghost Protocol as far as the franchise goes.

The film, released in about 3,400 theaters, sat comfortably in the number one slot thanks in part to few other major releases going out over the past several days. One notable exception to the lack of major releases, though, was the new flick Vacation.

The sequel to National Lampoon’s classic Vacation installment in 1983 did only $14.8 million this weekend in its opener — a super disappointing total for a new installment of an already-recognized franchise and a summer comedy.

After earning less than $4 million on its opening day on Wednesday, it couldn’t pick up steam over the weekend, and it sits in second place way behind the Cruise-led action flick.

Ant Man and Minions are still hanging out in third and fourth place, respectively, and Adam Sandler‘s Pixels earned $10.4 million this weekend to give it the fifth place slot at the box office.

What do U think — did you see Mission Impossible and/or Vacation? Were you a fan of either one??
