This is incredible!
It looks like Netflix is making some changes and shaking things up in a big way!
The streaming service just recently announced a new policy that will offer its employees unlimited maternity and paternity leave for the first FULL year after a child’s birth or adoption!
The company already has a policy in which their employees get unlimited time off, as part of their ideology that the people who work for them should be free to figure out their own balance of work and personal time.
With the idea in mind, they felt it necessary to go ahead and explicitly write in the new policy regarding new parents receiving time off after having or adopting a child.
Tawni Cranz, Netflix’s chief talent officer, released a statement regarding the new change saying:
“We want employees to have the flexibility and confidence to balance the needs of their growing families without worrying about work or finances. Parents can return part-time, full-time, or return and then go back out as needed. We’ll just keep paying them normally, eliminating the headache of switching to state or disability pay.”
This is kind of a big deal since the required minimum amount of time off of eligible new parents by the US is 12 weeks of unpaid leave for mothers and quite often fathers not receiving any paid leave.
Whether or not this will pan out is yet to be see, but it’s a great step in fair treatment for employees and a great step in trying a new approach in putting the responsibility in the hands of the employees!
We think this is fantastic, especially for new parents for both financial and personal reasons.
We can’t wait to see the results!
