This might be the last resort.

As we reported, Real Housewives star Kim Richards was arrested earlier this week after she allegedly shoplifted over $600 worth of merchandise from a Target store in the San Fernando Valley.

This is one of the many instances where the troubled reality TV star has gotten in trouble with the law, and where she may have fallen back to her alcoholic ways.

Well now, her family might be stepping in.

According to a close source, the former child star’s brood is reportedly in talks to put her in a 5150 hold.

Psychotherapist Dr. Robi Ludwig explains what that process entails:

“A 5150 is basically when someone is hospitalized on an involuntary basis which simply means that they did not sign themselves into the hospital and they cannot sign themselves out.”

But how exactly will this help the RHOBH personality?

Dr. Ludwig furthers:

“Why this can help certain people is because it keeps them in the hospital longer and helps them to get treated longer.”

The medical professional details why Richards is the perfect candidate:

“It’s usually a person who is in a sicker state that ends up in a hospital involuntarily because other people have decided that they can’t make decisions on their own behalf and they usually are considered a danger to themselves or others at least for a period of time.”

Additionally, a 5150 can prevent the 50-year-old from leaving rehab prematurely.

However, it’s not going to be easy:

“Very often the person who is involuntarily committed to a hospital, they get very angry with their family members. They almost feel like they’re being put in prison, that their will and their freedom is being robbed from them.”

We just hope Kim gets the help she needs.
