If you follow Cody Simpson on Twitter and saw a series of dramatic tweets on Thursday, don’t be alarmed!

While the 18-year-old is currently touring in Japan, he handed over his social media account to Thair Orfahli, a Syrian refugee traveling to Italy on a boat with 234 other migrants.

This Twitter takeover is part of a United Nations project called #ShareHumanity which aims to tell the narratives of individuals making such a journey.

When Thair began posting, he tells Simpson’s millions of followers how war-torn and dangerous his native country is:

When he arrives in Italy, he applies for asylum but is denied.
