This is so tragic.

On Tuesday, it was revealed that the former New York Giants safety, Tyler Sash, passed away at 27-years-old.

Authorities have since relayed to the press that emergency services were called for an unresponsive male who lived in Oskaloosa, IA. The state’s medical examiners officer later confirmed the Super Bowl Champion’s death. Oh no!

An autopsy will be performed today in order to determine Tyler’s cause of death. Currently, it is suspected that no foul play has been involved in the American athlete’s untimely death.

Hmm, very inneresting.

The University of Iowa alum played for the school’s football team — the Hawkeyes — between 2007-2010 and went onto play two seasons with the Giants. Tyler even secured a Super Bowl ring in 2011. Wow!

Unfortunately, Sash was at one point suspended from the NFL team after testing positive for Adderall — which is often used to treat ADHD and is a stimulant. Nonetheless, the football player explained that he had a prescription and was unaware the stimulant was banned under the NFL’s policy.

Whomp, whomp.

The New York team cut ties and reached an injury settlement with Sash in 2013 after he suffered a concussion in the preseason finale.

However, in May 2014, the former sixth round draft pick was arrested following a police chase where he was intoxicated on a motorized scooter. At the time, he pleaded guilty to public intoxication and was only fined $65

In regards to Tyler’s death, the Giants stated:

“We were all deeply saddened today to hear of the passing of Tyler. Our thoughts and prayers go out to Tyler’s family and friends and all the Hawkeyes he was so proud to represent.”

Tissues, anyone?!

Several of the NFL veteran’s previous teammates have since taken to Twitter (below) following the news of his passing.

This is so heartbreaking! IU’s head coach Kirk Ferentz officially canceled his weekly press conference and shared:

“We are all very saddened to hear about the untimely loss of Tyler. It is always so difficult when it involves someone this young. Our heartfelt condolences and prayers go out to Tyler’s family during this extremely difficult time – and we want them to know they are not in this alone.”

Well said sir!

Our thoughts are with Tyler’s friends and family during this trying time.
