Cue the tissues! You’re definitely going to need them!
In June, Maria Williamson — a server from Mobile, Alabama — was shot in the face when four men attempted to steal her car.
According to the 26-year-old:
“The bullet went through my nose, and damaged my right eye, over the course of the next week I had two surgeries, one of them to remove my right eye.”
The suspects — who authorities believe to be teens — have yet to be caught.
While she was recovering, a dog in her vicinity named Bear suffered a similar injury when he was attacked by bigger dog, causing his eye to pop out of its socket.
The puppy was just four-weeks-old.
Bear was taken to the Animal Rescue Foundation, a nonprofit organization that fosters animals and tries to find them a home.
After the cute pup had surgery to remove his damaged eye, staff members of the charity started a crowdfunding page to help pay for his medical fees. Williamson’s boyfriend saw the post and immediately told Maria.
After realizing they shared a similar story, she acted quickly in order to ensure Bear had a home.
“I adopted Bear the same day├óΓé¼┬ª I couldn’t let him sit in the vet’s office one more night. I knew he needed to be home, and loved on by his human.”
Even though Maria and Bear endured heartbreaking circumstances, they refuse to be defined by their struggles.
“Like me, he is a survivor├óΓé¼┬ª We are not victims, we are survivors who get to share our story.”
We are completely touched by this story and we are so glad these two are together and happy!
