This is pretty fantastic news for water coolers all across America!
Serial became a cultural phenomenon in 2014 as the This American Live podcast followed the troubling case of Adnan Syed.
Well, it looks like the legal series is about to become even more famous because Serial is being turned into a TV show!
It was announced via press release on Wednesday that host Sarah Koenig would be teaming up with The LEGO Movie and The Last Man On Earth‘s Phil Lord and Chris Miller to bring the story to cable!
According to 21st Century FOX:
“From the very first week of Serial’s release last fall, everyone at Fox 21TVS was obsessed with the podcast. One year later, thanks to the incredible passion of Chris and Phil, who flew to New York and shared their vision with Sarah, Julie Synder, Alissa Shipp, and Ira Glass for what the series could be, we’re moving forward on this exciting project.
Chris and Phil take an unexpected approach to telling stories and that is so appealing to us at Serial. They experiment. They don’t mimic formulas. Developing a show with them is exciting because we feel like we speak the same language, only they’re smarter than us.”
It’s unclear if the show will be fictionalized reenactments of real life cases or complete fiction, but once a writer gets attached, we’re sure it’ll be snatched up by a network real fast.
But if you don’t want to wait until next year to watch the show, make sure to catch Season Two of Serial when it returns to radio this Fall!
