We are at a total loss for words!
As we reported, a shooter now identified as Chris Harper Mercer claimed the lives of at least ten students at Umpqua Community College in Roseburg, OR on Thursday morning.
Well it has now come to light that UCC has a famous alum who was instrumental in preventing a similar tragedy.
Alek Skarlatos rose to fame when he helped stopped an alleged terrorist attack on a Paris train in August.
The Dancing With The Stars contestant released a statement explaining his personal connection to the massacre.
The 22-year-old said:
“I was enrolled as a student at Umpqua Community College prior to my 2014 deployment to Afghanistan. While I was fortunate enough to be in the right place at the right time in August aboard a train bound for Paris, I only wish that the same could be said for today.”
The Army National Guard Specialist furthers:
“I praise the first responders who were on the ground today in Roseburg as they undoubtedly were integral in saving numerous lives and putting a stop to what could have been more than tragic than it is. My heart and prayers go out to this community, my community, right now.”
He even wrote on Twitter that he is heading back to the town of his alma mater to comfort those in need:
Heading home to roseburg tonight. Everyone send thoughts and prayers to the families
