Dismaland, a creation of the world-famous graffiti artist Banksy, has now closed its doors and will be sending all of its park materials away…
But don’t weep for Banksy, as they’re going to a very important cause!
The “bemusement park,” which had been set up earlier this summer in Weston-super-Mare, England, announced on its website this week that it will be shutting down and no longer being used to critique capitalism, police brutality, war, and other social and cultural issues as it had been doing.
A statement on the park’s website read:
“All the timber and fixtures from Dismaland are being sent to the ‘jungle’ refugee camp near Calais to build shelters. No online tickets will be available.”
Calais, France is a city where thousands of refugees, predominantly from the African nations of Eritrea and Sudan, struggle to live in awful conditions.
At least it sounds like Banksy’s installation will be going to something very good, to help build shelters and more needed things in the camp!
