OK, this is just funny.
Matt Damon‘s new flick The Martian may be getting good reviews — and it may even be scientifically accurate in its portrayal of space and Mars — but it certainly isn’t based on a true story!
Except… despite the fact that no human has been to Mars, that didn’t stop WAY too many people from thinking The Martian was based on a true story!
Ch-ch-check out some of the best tweets (below) of poor, unfortunate movie-goers — and their embarrassed friends and family — who may well have spent two hours worried sick about the real-life astronaut who was left on the red planet:
I spoke with a hotel guest last week who asked if The Martian was based on a true story.

As great as “The Martian” was, my favorite part was after when my grandma asks if it was based on a true story

Sometimes I’m smart, and sometimes I google “is the martian based on a true story”. For the record it is definitely not.

Oh man. No word yet if any of these people are actively campaigning to go to Mars for a rescue mission! LOLz!!
