Selena Gomez is revealing just how much she’s been through in Billboard‘s October 17 issue — and it’s a LOT. The pop princess broke her silence about being diagnosed with lupus, but also shocked us all when she let another secret slip.
The Disney darling underwent chemotherapy.
In a snippet from her upcoming interview, the brunette beauty explained exactly why she took some time off. She expressed just how frustrated she was that tabloids were reporting that it was because of addiction, saying:
“I was diagnosed with lupus, and I’ve been through chemotherapy. That’s what my break was really about. I could’ve had a stroke. I wanted so badly to say, ├óΓé¼╦£You guys have no idea. I’m in chemotherapy. You’re assholes.’ I locked myself away until I was confident and comfortable again.”
But, now she’s finally opening up about the diagnosis, and even admits that the frustration she feels with the media helped inspire her new music:
“I’m so f*cking nice to everybody, and everyone is so vile to me. I’ve been working since I was 7. I’ve been a UNICEF ambassador since I was 17. It’s so disappointing that I’ve become a tabloid story. The hate motivated me.”
She also dished about the haters who targeted her fuller figure earlier this year, saying:
“I was in a bikini and got publicly ripped for being overweight. That was the first time I’d experienced body shaming like that. I believed some of the words they were saying.
The artist says that’s the real reason she’s baring it all on the cover of her upcoming album, Revival.
We’re thrilled that she seems to be in a happier and healthier place now, since she was all smiles when she announced she’ll be going on tour next year.
Way to bounce back, Selena!
