After “Clock kid” Ahmed Mohamed checked meeting the President off his list — he’s saying goodbye to America!
The 14-year-old Muslim student who was arrested for bringing a homemade clock to school because teachers thought it resembled a bomb is moving out of the country and will soon be living in Qatar!
The family released the following statement on Tuesday, citing Ahmed’s decision to attend Qatar Foundation‘s Young Innovators Program:
“After careful consideration of all the generous offers received, we would like to announce that we have accepted a kind offer from Qatar Foundation for Education, Science and Community Development (QF) for Ahmed to join the prestigious QF Young Innovators Program, which reflects the organization’s on-going dedication to empowering young people and fostering a culture of innovation and creativity.”
According to family friend Anthony Bond, who is also the founder of the Irving, Texas chapter of the NAACP, Ahmed’s family made the decision to leave the states within the past 24 hours!
This decision comes in the wake of Ahmed meeting Barack Obama at the White House’s Astronomy Night on Monday!
We’re so happy for the engineering wiz’s opportunity for this fully paid education, and can’t wait to see what more amazing inventions he comes up with!
