We can always use a little more Bill Murray in our lives!

One of the most interesting things to come out of the candid Q&A was the legendary funnyman being asked which role “got away” form him!

In a surprising response, the Ghostbusters star revealed that it was a role he lost to Mel Gibson! He explained:

“The only role i wanted I didn’t get, the Year Of Living Dangerously by Peter Weir, I wasn’t a big shot. Mel Gibson lived in Australia. I’d been to Indonesia and I thought I understood that movie. When I saw it, I was like, damn! That was the only one I wanted I didn’t get. Peter Weir is…something else.”

If you don’t know the 1982 film, it’s the story of a journalist (Gibson) who travels to Jakarta, Indonesia, befriends a dwarf photographer, and romances a British diplomat (played by Bill’s Ghostbusters costar Sigourney Weaver).

Check out all the intrigue in the trailer for the Oscar-winning flick (below)!

This is definitely an interesting pick if Murray is being completely serious — after all, in the early 80s he was mainly known for comedies such as Caddyshack, Stripes, and Ghostbusters.

Had he landed the role, we bet it DEFINITELY would have changed the course of his career!

Bill sure is full of surprises!

What do you think? Could the Groundhogs Day star have been able to pull off a leading man in such a heavy drama back in the day??
