But now, one artist created a resemblance between two unlikely doppelgangers — Queen Elizabeth and… Tom Hanks?!
At least, that’s what critics are saying after Shanghai sculptor Chen Dapeng revealed his porcelain sculpture!
The bust of Her Royal Highness was unveiled at the Winter Art and Antiques Fair in London on Monday as part of this year’s launch of a Year of Cultural Exchange between the U.K. and China!
But this time, the royal family might want to exchange the gift right back!
While it took 13 tries for Dapeng to get the statue right, some observers have pointed out the final product looks more like the Bridge of Spies actor than the Queen!
He shared an early version of his product on Twitter:
But after Dapeng produced the Queen’s likeness in clay, he moved on to Chinese white porcelain, which is notoriously difficult.
Art critic Mark Hudson noted that the statue is:
“Rather out of proportion, the back of the head is too large and he has given her a bit of a boxer’s chin. It’s ended up looking a bit like Tom Hanks. But it has a certain exuberance and if you like kitsch then why not? Good for him.”
After that, onlookers couldn’t help but see it!
Take a look at the sculpture yourself and see who YOU think the statue bears a bigger resemblance to!
