This is so scary!
Jill Kruse was visiting Cocoa Beach in Brevard County, Florida with her family on Sunday when she was attacked by a shark!
The 28-year-old had only been at the beach for 10 minutes and was only waist-deep in the Atlantic Ocean when she was bitten.
The shark latched on to her leg and angle and initially refused to let go — until Kruse punched it in the head, allowing her to wrestle free from the predator’s grasp.
Holly Peterson, who witnessed the event, said it was horrifying hearing Jill’s screams:
“I looked over at her and she said, ‘Somebody help me!’ I saw the fin come up and slap her in the face, and she said, ‘It got me,’ so I grabbed her hand and [dragged] her back to the shore.”
From there, Jill’s mother, Wanda Kruse, and the rest of the family pulled Jill to safety and began covering her wounds with towels while they waited for paramedics to arrive.
Wanda updated reporters on her daughter’s condition later in the day after she was stabilized at the hospital:
“She’s just hurting and, you know, she’s going to heal. It’s going to take a while to heal, but we are just so blessed to have her.”

Here’s to her healing — she is in the hospital right now recovering from the injuries to her leg — and for thinking quickly enough to punch that shark in the face and free herself!
